Real Life Weddings at Pennyhill Park

How did you both meet and how did the proposal occur?

We met whilst living and working in London in 2016. Ten months after our first date we moved in together in our favourite neighbourhood of Wapping, and by fifteen months we'd been joined by our two Pomeranians, Bunny & Lola.

It took Tom a little longer to pop the question. In February 2020 we took a trip to San Diego for his work. It's a place that already held special memories for us having road tripped together from California to Texas the previous year. He proposed on Valentine's Day morning. We spent the rest of the day in our favourite beachside suburb of La Jolla and went out for sushi in the evening.

What did you love most about Pennyhill Park?

We returned home to a completely different world. Covid had hit and we had to face up to the prospect of planning a wedding in the middle of a pandemic. One very straight forward decision was the choice of Pennyhill Park as our venue. After our initial showround with Jodey we were sold. We even cancelled our two other viewings for that afternoon and went to Ikea instead!

Tom grew up nearby, but we wanted a wedding venue that would be a real destination for the friends and family who'd be travelling significant distances to join us. We weren't surprised that well over half of our guests decided to stay.

Did you have a theme or a particular style for your day?

We'd only ever wanted an intimate wedding with our very closest family and friends. Pennyhill Park were able to accommodate this perfectly, with the Library providing a cosy ceremony location and the Windsor & Eton Suite having plenty of room for our 30-odd guests without it feeling at all vast. This was helped by our amazing venue stylists; we told them 'fairy lights and foliage' and they did the rest.

What do you remember most about the day itself?

On the day everything ran like clockwork thanks to Ella and her team. She checked in with us regularly without being overbearing and even gave us her mobile number in case of any emergencies. The registrars comment on how calm we were, and this must have had something to do with it.

Were there any special moments or surprises during the planning or the big day?

Some of our best memories actually come from the days either side of the wedding, from our families meeting in the Hillfield Bar for drinks the night before, to being able to recover at the spa the day after with all of our best friends.

What tips or advice would you give to future couples?

If we could offer one piece of advice to future couples it would be to follow your gut instincts amidst all the 'helpful' advice you will receive from absolutely everyone. Oh, and make sure to book a taxi for the menu tasting because they certainly weren't tasting volumes being poured.
