The Wedding of
Bethan & Nick
Real Life Weddings at South Lodge
How did you both meet and how did the proposal occur?
We met at school in year 10 even though we didn’t have any classes together – we were rather different at school!
7 years later on a trip to Paris Nick insisted on going back to the Eiffel Tower as ‘he didn’t like any of the pictures we had previously taken’ (turns out he had lost his nerve first time round!).
After a lot of looking for someone who spoke English we finally found someone to take more pictures and he got down on one knee! Turns out he had also been listening when I had dropped hints about the ring as it was perfect!
What did you love most about South Lodge?
We both loved how excellent all the staff were and both commented that even staff members not involved in the wedding when we passed them would stop and say congratulations! The grounds were spectacular and made for such wonderful photos. We have some beautiful ones down by the lake. Everything went so smoothly and everything was taken care of without either of us having to worry.
We also loved that feeling you get as you drive up - it is truly a beautiful hotel. Inside is all very elegant and we lost count the number of guests who commented on how amazing both the inside and outside look. We also had a lot of guests appreciate the fact that there was another room they could use if they didn’t want to be around the music all night, it gave a space to sit and talk or to have a break from the dancing!
Did you have a theme or particular style for your day?
We didn’t exactly have a theme other than a colour scheme which was navy and white. However, after realising it is nearly impossible to get navy flowers we incorporated navy in ribbons on the jars for our candles, the ribbons on the bouquets and navy text for our place names. All along we wanted to enjoy the wedding experience rather than getting stressed out so both of us were very easy going with the planning. We also, with a lot of help from parents, made a lot of our wedding items. We had Lindt chocolates in organza bags as favours which we attached hearts engraved with Mr and Mrs Scott which took a lot of time but was well worth it as they looked beautiful! The place names were also handmade by adding pearl hearts and flowers to blank name cards, we thought this added a more personal touch!
Tell us all about the dress...
My dress was the perfect dress for me, lots of sparkle on the top and then a big ballgown skirt with sequins under the first layer which really made it sparkle in the photos. It also had some blush satin under the first few layers giving it a slight pink look which I loved. I never thought I’d want a big dress but after trying it on I fell in love with it and thought it would stand out against the beautiful back drop of South Lodge.
What do you remember most about the day itself?
We just remember how perfectly the day went. There isn’t one bit either of us look back on and would want to change. One thing we really loved was in the reception area on the big screen it said ‘Mr and Mrs Scott’ and this was the first time we had really seen it written down and it just made everything so real!
Were there any special moments or surprises during the planning or on the day?
We always felt like any question would be answered, Emma was always quick to reply and came back with all the information needed so we always felt valued. It definitely made the whole experience so much easier and gave it that personal touch for us.
What tips or advice would you give to future couples?
Just enjoy it! Every part of the planning, from choosing the flowers to the menu tasting just soak it all up! It all goes by so quickly so don’t stress the small things because chances are people won’t notice the same way you would. I remember on our order of events sign some of the text not being level and it annoyed me so much when it arrived but these are the things people won’t remember. They remember how beautiful you look and the venue looks, they remember that smile your partner has as you walk down the aisle and they remember the day all going so well so just enjoy every moment!
