Real Life Weddings at Fanhams Hall

How did you both meet and how did the proposal occur?

We first met in 2010 at school but we didn't start dating until 2012, when we both were on holiday in the same location at the same time.

In 2019, we went to Thailand to celebrate our 21st birthday. We went out for a lovely romantic meal at a local restaurant and there was a musician playing. We had some amazing Thai food and then went for a walk around the town, finishing up on the beach. We took some photos together on the beach and then Matt got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was so surreal and a beautiful proposal. Matt even managed to get it all on video.

What did you love most about Fanhams Hall?

We fell in love with Fanhams Hall for its beautiful grounds and its unique character. When we saw the Great Hall all set up, we knew instantly that we had to have our wedding at Fanhams Hall.

Did you have a theme or a particular style for your day?

We had no particular theme but I suppose you could say it was a mixture of romantic and glamorous.

Our florist did an amazing job of bringing the long gallery to life with a beautiful floral arch and showing off the beauty of the Great Hall with foliage added to the torches which just brought them to life.

Fanhams Hall and its grounds were the perfect backdrop to make our wedding come to life.

Tell us all about THE dress…..

I went with my Mum, Sister, Nan and (now) Mother-in-law. I went with an idea of which styles I liked and didn't like. But when I tried on my preferred styles, I was not experiencing the 'wow factor'. The stylist went got me a strapless dress which something I did not want as I feared I would be spending the whole day pulling my dress up but as soon as I put it on, I fell in love with the dress. I loved that it was an almond colour which I thought was unusual but beautiful. I went for a cathedral veil which tied in with the dress just perfectly.

What do you remember most about the day itself?

What we remember most is that we couldn't stop smiling throughout the whole day. It was everything and more we could dream of.

Regarding the Fanhams Hall staff, Rachel (the function manager) was amazing and went above and beyond to make sure us and our wedding guests were extremely well looked after. Her knowledge and experience of weddings really shone through and played a key part in looking after the Mother of the Bride and getting us ready for our first dance. Luke was extremely helpful in looking after our guests (especially those in a wheelchair) and made our exit from the venue memorable.

Were there any special moments or surprises?

The whole day was a massive special moment for us, especially having all our family and friends in one room. We all had an amazing time and enjoyed every moment even though it was one of the hottest days of the year.

What tips or advice would you give to future couples?

Organisation is key - make sure you get all the big things done as soon as possible.

For the decoration, if you are able to get someone else to do it then do. It takes away so much stress and leaves you free to just enjoy your wedding day.

If you can afford it, we would recommend getting a videographer as well as a photographer to ensure that every moment of your special day is captured and you can relive it in years to come.

Do it your way and don’t let others interfere. It’s your special day.
