Real Life Weddings at Fanhams Hall

How did you both meet and how did the proposal occur?

We met nearly 10 years ago at Leeds Uni. Being from Hertfordshire, I asked my friend to find me a boyfriend who was ‘dark and handsome and lived in or around Hertfordshire’. She said meet Stephen Marsh!
In the Summer of 2011 I spent a season in Magaluf. In Stephens own words ‘like the melt that I am, I fell in love on a lads holiday’. Stephen joined for 2 weeks and the rest is history

What did you love most about Fanhams Hall?

We loved the special atmosphere in the Long Gallery. It’s intimate yet grand and surrounded by tradition. It overlooks the most beautiful gardens.
All of our guests were able to stay on site the night of the wedding and the night before. Our whole bridal party were able to get ready together and extend the wedding celebrations. No one had to travel. The bar manager and staff were outstanding.

Did you have a theme or a particular style for your day?

We wanted a timeless, romantic, traditional English wedding. We used candles to create intimacy and our flowers included roses, hydrangeas and peonies. Fanhams Hall and its grounds were the perfect backdrop.

Tell us all about THE dress…..

When I pictured our wedding day, I always saw myself in a big princess dress! It fitted perfectly with Fanhams Hall. I looked for some smaller details like Pearl buttons and lace on the back of the corset to create a more timeless look

What do you remember most about the day itself?

I remember waking up at 4am and being excited and nerve free from the moment I opened my eyes. I pretty much danced down the aisle. I have never felt so relaxed!

Were there any special moments or surprises?

We chose to have J Cole - Work Out as our first dance and loved that we chose a song unique to us.
A man caught the bouquet which caused uproar.
We had a singer and Danny Mills on the piano who had everyone dancing during the dinner. One of my Irish cousins spontaneously sang Pretty Woman for us during the meal.

What tips or advice would you give to future couples?

Everyone feeds off your energy so have the right people around you at different moments for what you need on the day. Ask the venue to leave wedding cake & food in your room for the end of the night - munchies are soo needed. Stay on the dance floor & guests will follow. Dance dance dance. Definitely offer flip flops
